Book Suggestions

In an effort to spend more time together as a family and to force ourselves to be more productive we've cancelled our TV. So, because of this, I'll now have time during naps to either take naps myself or read books, the only problem is that I need some books to read. I have very well read friends who, I'm sure, could give me lots of suggestions. So, have any? I'm not that into sci-fi (Twilight was about my limit with weirdness) but will take suggestions on just about anything else. I'm planning a trip to the library as we speak.

Shannon Hale writes great quick reads.
Sorry I don't know the authors off the top of my head for the other ones.
Happy reading!

Hmmm... we should really cancel out tv too, but I just can't give up my shows. I just read "The Glass Castle," by Jeanette Walls and really liked it. I also love Shannon Hale Books. "Goose Girl," "River Secrets," "Enna Burning" are all a series and I loved them. They are YA so they are quick reads.

The Book Thief
The Gurnsey Literary Society and Potato Pie Club
Left to Tell (this one is non-fiction and really good)
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Huge fan of Shannon Hale

I need to go to the bookstore to use the gift certificates I got for Christmas! Wish you were closer and we could shop/go to the library together. I LOVE TO READ!

Recent enjoyable reads
Fiction suggestion:
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Nonfiction suggestion:
See No Evil by Robert Baer

I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies ("ehhh" with shrugged shoulders for how good it is). The Hunger Games by Collins and Richard Peck's new book A Season of Gifts are next on my list.

I second Amber's suggestions as well as "The Glass Castle"
Hunger Games is sooooo good as is the second one which I own. I actually own both of them but the first one is loaned out somewhere.

Just read "These is my words" which I also own and I never thought I'd like it but I did.

What a great idea! I wish we had the willpower to turn off our tv....and the computers....and the iphone....

Sorry, I have no book suggestions...it's been years since I really read anything....other than blogs....

Welcome to our world! It is not so bad after a while.
I have just read a few good books that I LOVED.
-The Hunger Games
-Catching Fire (sequel to the Hunger Games)
-The Ladies Auxiliary (about a group of Jewish women)
-Love Walked In

Good luck!

The Alchemist.... It's a short but good read

I also recommend The Hunger Games and Catching Fire; those are super-quick reads, though, and you just might find yourself ignoring your baby while you read them. So, fair warning on that one.

I also have to second I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith because I LOVE that book. Along similar lines...older books written for younger ladies...I love Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freedman, and Seventeenth Summer by Maureen Daly. Seventeenth Summer sounds awful just from its title but it is such a sweet story. Both books were written in the 1940s.

Ummm...I also just read Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt. What is up with me and YA books. I think I am just in a phase of life when I need something kinda light. And to round out the YA picks, I have Goose Girl on hold at the library.

Have fun! We don't have TV either and I do not miss it. We can watch shows online if we ever want to later but it doesn't have the same appeal so we don't watch as much as we would if we had TV.
